TBI Youth Programmes

A local and international need for youth development has prompted TBI Adventures to establish several youth development programmes. The programmes focus on the development of learners and students and utilize adventure experiences as a vehicle for transfer of learning and subsequent behavioural change. We refer to this methodology as Adventure-related Experiential Learning (AEL).

“Adventure related Experiential Learning is a process through which a learner constructs knowledge, skill and value from direct adventure related-experiences and in-depth reflection”. Heunis (1997)

TBI Adventures is the leader in the market place providing state of the art AEL training and technology. We create and facilitate quality AEL experiences for all our participants in an emotionally and physically safe environment, allowing participants to be themselves and for optimal learning to take place. Various AEL instruments or “tools” such as high ropes courses and low ropes courses, hiking, wild caving, kayaking, rock climbing and abseiling in addition to other activities could be used during the process.

TBI Youth Programmes

Our programmes have been designed to empower students, grow strong leaders and develop virtuous and successful individuals. Instilling values such as integrity, honesty and patience, self-control, respect, discipline and determination in our youth enables them to take ownership of their future and the future of our country. The programmes aim to challenge existing thought patterns and attitudes and to broaden paradigms.

The programme outcomes include:

  • Self exploration and discovery of individual identity
  • Improved trust and communication
  • An understanding of teamwork and support
  • Individual roles in a team
  • Life values
  • Improved problem solving and leadership skills
  • Youth Groups will also be introduced to stargazing, indigenous flora, water conservation & birdwatching.
  • Having lots of fun!

Our Venue, 26 km from Oudtshoorn at the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains in a World Heritage conservation area, is the ideal setting for achieving our goals. Experts have described this venue as the best in South Africa.
